The Gap Band-Yearning for your Love

Hey Y’all,

happy summer, happy early fall, what’s been going on?! It’s been a hot minute and I’m glad to be back with a new poem. I have been trying to find life, find inspiration, find love, find the beach, everything. In the midst of that, I’ve been trying to be hopeful. Trying to pray and find a way out of the mundane and sometimes spiraling thoughts and observations on the world. I wrote a poem for my friends ☺️

They Let Me Be A Garden.

I grew a plant for my friend.

Named it after her,

Tall.Outstretched. Weighed down by the shade of her own leaves.

I must repot her.

I mean spot her.

Watch for her nourishment and clip the dead things that grow on her edges.

Tiny leaves,  jungle gym and swing from her leaves.

They too, grow in front of our eyes.

She grows in front of my eyes.

Season after season,

Trimming the dead, and beautiful things

Grow in their place.

I named an attitude after my friend.

And the type of smile that emerges after.

They both appear like late trains, minutes apart carrying different moods.

I compare her to southern rain.

The type that pours from a sunny side of a cloud

Combines with the heat in the air and soothes the day with serene hush

Her smile pats the morning on its head

And her eyes pinch it’s cheeks.

She is adorned by the sun:

she is sun kissed, sun flowered, and sun followed.

I named sweet moments after my friend.

The time I first heard my favorite song,

The times of day when all the colors blend together,

The mornings that tucked us into bed,

The growing earth underneath, and the expanding earth within us,

She is the flame flickering on the dinner table, lighting familiar faces,

Guiding smiles into familiar traces,

She is the home and the hearth of everything good that grows

The swell in her laugh, the calla lilies in her eyes,

She is glitter if glitter was a person.

Everytime I look at her I remember to fall in love again, she strengthens the depths in me,

God bless all her heart warms.

They say you fall in love a million times: I’ve fallen a million n seven more;

A million n several things I love about them

From petals to intellect

Photosynthesis to the emphasis on their essence

The miles they’ve gone to meet me more than halfway from where I should be

The weeds of miscommunication and misunderstandings pulled from our growing space

The best of what grows is in them

And if I had praise falling from my mouth like rain down the spine of a leaf

I would speak to everything that lives there

And nourish the ground with my heart songs.

Sista you’ve been on my mind

Sista that growth is gon take some time

Sista just go head n do what you do

Sista you are so fine

Sista don’t let this world cage your mind

Sista I’ve got my eyes on you

God bless all you bloom into

God bless all you bloom into

thank y’all 🥰 check my events to see where I’ll be performing soon
